Khasada Waterfall
A seasonal three-tiered waterfall tumbling through forested hills a few kilometres from the Jirang monastery — a quiet picnic spot with natural pools and Saora tribal villages around.
History & legend
The falls lie in the homeland of the Saora (Sora) tribe, one of Odisha's oldest communities, mentioned in the Mahabharata as Savaras and credited in Jagannath legend with first worshipping the deity (as Nila Madhava) before he came to Puri. Gajapati district was carved from Ganjam in 1992 and named after Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deo of Paralakhemundi, a key figure in creating Odisha as a separate province in 1936.
